She asked Jesus into her heart when she was 4 years old. We've been waiting for her to be baptized until we thought she was "old enough," which is a relative term depending on each individual child. She's 6 now. We've talked to the children's minister twice now and he thinks she's ready. But the church generally likes to wait until the kids are in first grade. He told us to just pray about it and seek God's wisdom.
Yesterday on the way to school, she told one of the neighborhood moms about it. Then last night, she told another neighborhood mom about it. She's so excited. She told me last night that she wants to be baptized THIS Sunday. What an exciting and eager spirit she has. It's inspiring.
I wanted to share something she said to the children's pastor Sunday night. He asked her, "What do you do when you've done something wrong?" Now, the typical "Sunday School" answer would be Ask Jesus to forgive me of my sins. And although her answer means the same, the way she phrased it touched my heart and brought tears to my eyes. She answered him, "Tell Jesus I'm real sorry." What truth. Do we sometimes ask forgiveness without a truly "sorry" or repentant heart. It's a very important part of the process. And it just shows again the purity of a child's heart. There's nothing like it.
